Stonemasons and gemcutters make it their life’s work to build structures and create jewelry. The precision of each cut is crucial for the block to sit flush with the others, for the diamond to be set properly. The process often bleeds and blisters.
We ourselves are not only the gems, but the cutters as well. Sure, the grind of life is painful and unbearable at times, but the “coolant” it often applies reveals its luster.
The “cuts and coolants” found in this work represents my personal journey as gem and cutter. Trials, joys, zugzwangs and victories have all shaped and sculpted who I am. I’m elated to share the fruits of my blues and my triumphs.
